THE Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has promised to improve the welfare of workers in the state by rewarding diligent and committed officials.

Ambode, who spoke on Thursday at the presentation of the Long Service Merit Awards to 555 public servants, at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, said the state had recorded a lot of achievements through the contributions of the workers.

The governor, who was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Dr. Benson Akintola, urged other workers to continue to work diligently to strengthen the trust reposed in the civil service by the public.

He said, “The modest achievements for which I have received accolades could not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of the engine room, which the public service represents.

“We shall adequately reward diligence and exceptional performance. Conversely, negligence, indiscipline and abuse of trust shall be sanctioned appropriately in line with the rules and regulations of the public service.

“I congratulate all the awardees for their meritorious service to the state. I wish you good health and great years ahead as you look forward to a glorious end of your careers in the public service.”

The state Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola, said the awards were also aimed at motivating civil servants in the state to continue to put in their best always.

On behalf of the awardees, Mr. Ola Michael-Dawodu, who had served for 35 years, thanked the HoS and the governor for the honour, assuring that they would continue to make themselves available for service when called upon.
