CHAIRMAN, Senate Commitee on Information Communication Technology and Cybercrime, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, on Thursday said stripping political office holders of their immunity would prevent criminal tendencies and bad record from taking part in the affairs of the country.
The APC Senator, representing Buhari Oyo North Senatorial Districts who said this while speaking with journalists in Osogbo opined that immunity should be exclusive to only the preaident.
“What is the essence of immunity for a governor or lawmaker? It’s of no use because I don’t think anybody with a genuine passion to serve the people need it.
“There are a lot of people with clean record who are willing to serve this nation but the system did not encourage them because corrupt and greedy people always have their way into power.”
The lawmaker while speaking on the crisis in the House said it will soon fizzle out with time, adding that “it is not affecting the business of the house as expected, but I am optimistic that the storm will soon be over.”
While speaking on the need to promote and develop ICT in Nigeria, Senator Buhari urged the policy makers in the education sector to compulsory teachings of ICT at both primary and secondary schools.
According to him, the fundamental knowledge needed should be acquired at the elementary levels before it is later developed into something better.
He urged Nigerians to support in the fight against cybercrime in the country, saying g “the existing laws against cruder crime need to be amended.
“Asides the employment oppurtunities in the ICT, it can also be use to generate income for for the development of the country.”
Senator Buhari harpes on the need for reorientation of Nigerians and the need to support the fight against corruption, explaining that corruption is not our problem in this country; our problem is orientation. For instance, once you know that the money being stolen by somebody is what should be used to develop your area or provide basic amenities and infrastructure facilities for your community, you will be the one to challenge whoever is stealing the money.”
He however commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s in fighting the Boko Haram menace, while he expressed optimism that the present economic challenges in the country will soon be over.
