As sympathisers on Tuesday continue to throng Umesi Street, Ado Ekiti residence of a director in the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr David Jejelowo, who was killed by gunmen on Monday in his house at about 1:00a.m., wife of the deceased, Mrs Olusola Jejelowo, has called on security agents to fish out the killers of her husband.

Sympathisers and co-workers at the commission are still in shock, as they find it hard to understand what led to the killing of the civil servant.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ekiti command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident to journalists in Ado Ekiti. Abutu said the gunmen had stormed Jejelowo’s residence and shot him dead in his living room. He said the police have not been able to ascertain the intention of the assailants, but the investigation would reveal that.

“Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident, but investigation is ongoing to unravel the motive behind Jejelowo’s killing,” he said.

Mrs Jejelowo, while narrating the incident to journalists on Tuesday amidst grief, said the family was still wondering what Jejelowo did to warrant his gruesome murder.

She said: “We were in the sitting room watching television when we discovered that the net of one of our windows was shaking. We made attempt to look at what was behind the window when unknown gunman shot, I managed to run into the room, but my husband was unlucky as he was hit by the bullet.”

She explained that her late husband was in the pool of his blood for more than 30 minutes without any assistance before he was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), where he was confirmed dead.

One of the children of the deceased, Opeyemi Jejelowo, described his late father as an easy-going man who would not like to hurt anybody, wondering what could have led to his murder.

The commissioner in charge of the General Administration Department of the commission, Mr Wole Olujobi, described the death as painful.

Olujobi said: “He was a complete gentleman. His name bears his character: Jejelowo; gentle in everything. He was not a person that pursued riches. My impression of him was of somebody always contented. He was not desperate for money. He followed the rules.

“He never compromised rules and he had excellent human relations – a very disciplined civil servant that would not compromise any rule. He was always at peace with others and ensured he did not inflict pains on others. These were the reasons for the tears and sadness at the commission.”

He expressed hope that police investigation would reveal why he was killed. “Remember, he was kidnapped recently. When somebody underwent that kind of trauma and at the end of the day still got killed by criminals, you can understand the pain of everybody that knew him.

“Nobody can answer why he was always a victim of criminals. I believe that with this killing, the police will unravel why he was murdered,” he added.
