Ooni Tasks Lead City University Law Students On Cultural-Tourism

THE Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunsusi, has charged the Law students in the country to explore the limbs of law and jurisprudence in boosting and improving the social tourism estimations of the society.

The Ooni who was the Royal Father of the day at the 2017 Law Week, of the Lead City University, Faculty of Law disclosed that lawyers have roles to play in the restoration and resuscitation of cultural values, ethics, mores and heritages.

Oba Ogunwusi said: “As servants of hope in the temple of justice, you are professionally positioned to know and perceive the fundamental legal valves that are needed to stabilise and ensure the preservation, sustainance and promotion of heritable cultural values, customs and historical heritages not only as objects or instruments of entertainment but articles of empowerment.”

The Ooni, represented by a powerful delegation headed by Prince Benedict Kayode Ogunsusi include Princess Abimbola Fuyi Williams Egbesakin pointed out that formal law and legal systems are products of custom and tradition which are of long usage by the earliest people.

He disclosed that even when the colonialists came to Nigeria, they had no choice but to integrate some aspects of the customs and tradition of the people of Nigeria codified them as customary laws and even applied part of the tradition and culture provided they were not repugnant to social justice

He commended the management of Lead City University and the Faculty of Law for their stride at ensuring the inclusion of Cultural day in the Law Week programme “this is not only commendable, but depicts Lead City University as producer of thorough bred Lawyers who are not only schooled in the art of Law, but also taught to learn, embrace and promote the culture and tradition of their communities.”

Professor Bello Shittu, Dean, Faculty of Law who had earlier welcomed the Ooni’s entourage into his office revealed “Lead City University is positioned to produce world class students who are not only proficient in their educational fields but also find worthy in cultural value.”

The President, Law Students’ Association, LCU, Ibadan, Pastor James Igene on behalf of the students thanked the Ooni of Ife for his unquenchable love and passion for the promotion of culture and tradition in Nigeria

He commended the Ooni for “the royal show of magnanimity when we visited the palace in Ile – Ife. We cannot estimate in value, the warm reception and unique hospitality lavished on us at the palace. We were happy and joyful that God has enthroned a rare king of the youths. A king of the people, a king who has penchant for nurturing the future and a king who fears God. Long may you reign.”

The Cultural day was also witnessed by the chairman, Lead City University, Professor K. Aderemi Adeyemo, Acting Vice – Chancellor Professor Jide Oloye, Princess Folashade Adeyemi, Dr Ayobami Owolabi, Dean Students Affairs and Public Relations Director, Duchess Funmi Rotiba, President , Special Tours and Travel.
