OBOT Akara, a Local Government Area with abundant human and natural resources in a strategic position in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria is set to hold her 1st Economic Summit.

With the newly commissioned Nto Edino-Ekwarazu Road, bright business opportunities are already flourishing into the State and the need for the forth coming two-day Obot summit.

The 1st Obot Akara Economic Summit 2017 with the Theme: “Showcasing the potentials of an emerging commercial Nerve Centre in Akwa Ibom State” is scheduled to hold at the Local Government Council Secretariat, Nto Edino, Obot Akara Local Government Area on Friday, 30th June and Saturday, 1st July 2017.

The 1st Obot Akara Economic Summit 2017 is an attempt by the present Obot Akara Local Government Administration, in partnership with Obot Akara Youth Agro-base Multi-purpose Coorperative Society Limited and organized private organizations, to showcase to the world, untapped resources and capabilities abound in Obot Akara Local Government Area.

The convener, Comrade Emmanuel Amama, Chairman, Transition Committee, Obot Akara LGA Akwa Ibom State in a released stated that there are some natural endowments in the social-economic environment of the Local Government Area, which if well harnessed and the people enlightened, will boost development of the area and reduce poverty.

The Summit featuring exhibitions of made-in-Obot Akara products/services and business sessions, is packaged to among other things, awaken “entrepreneurship culture” among Obot Akara people; expose investors to available solid minerals, natural endowments and other business opportunities in Obot Akara; and educate the people on the benefits and economic potentials of the recently commissioned Nto Edino-Ekwarazu Road in Obot Akara Local Government, by His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel.

“These endowments and the need to expose them to the outside world necessitate the summit. Some of these include: Solid minerals and other non-oil sources of revenue in Obot Akara Local Government Area; Human and material resources; Opportunities in Obot Akara Local Government Area which the people can utilize to improve the quality of life and boost commercial activities; Possibilities accruable to the Local Government in view of the strategic road network traversing the Local Government Area to commercial towns in the South/Eastern part of the Country like Aba, Umuahia, Onitsha”, Amama disclosed.

Amama conluded that the summit is conceived to: align with the UNDP Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Especially in the areas of No poverty, Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic growth, Industry, innovation and infrastructure, Reduce inequalities, Gender Equality and Partnerships for goals amongst other goals.
