THE National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday suspended a gubernatorial aspirant in Anambra State, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, and referred the case of the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Buruji Kashamu, to its Disciplinary Committee for necessary action.
This was coming on the heel of the promise Senator Makarfi-led leadership of the party to to instill discipline in the Party.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday on the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said that the suspension of Dr Ubah, which would last for one month, followed a query issued to him, was for making unsavoury comments about the party in the recent past but that he did not bother to answer the query.
Adeyeye stated that following his failure to answer the query, the party decided to suspend him and refer his case to the disciplinary committee of the party.
He said that in the same vain, the NCC referred the case of Senator Buruji Kashamu from Ogun State to the disciplinary committee of the party as he was also queried, but answered the query denied all the allegations against him.
However, Buruji in a response said that his response to the Party’s query was out of deference to constituted authority,
According to him, “let me quickly add that the issuance of the query is contemptuous of the order of the court made on the 5th of September, 2017 by the Federal High Court, Abuja in Suit No.FHC/ABJ/CS/732/2017 wherein the court ordered that, “all parties are hereby ordered to desist from taking any further step or steps that may affect the Res in this matter aspreviously made by Hon Justice N Dimgba on 10/8/2017.
“I am extremely shocked by the content of your letter to the effect that I instigated the police to arrest and prefer criminal charges against certain party members whose names were mentioned in your letter.
“This is more so because the issues raised in the letter practically have no direct bearing to me except to the extent that I am the leader and highest PDP political office holder in Ogun State.
“First and foremost, I differ to the assertion that the Nigeria Police could be “instigated”into performing their statutory responsibilities. As a Nigerian lawmaker and Senator of the Federal Republic, I strongly believe in our institutions and thus have no doubt about the professionalism and capability of the Nigeria Police to perform their functions should the need arise.”
However, efforts to reach Ubah for comment proved abortive as one of his aides told our reporter in confidence that his boss has no comment for now untill his lawyers advised otherwise.
Meanwhile, the NCC of the Party has inaugurate a Caretaker Committee for the Oyo state chapter of the Party.
Inaugurating the Committee headed by Hon Tunde Akogun, a one time House Leader of the House of Representatives, in Abuja on Thursday, the Chairman of the NCC of the Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, urged the Committee to be fair just in carrying out its assignment.
Makarfi said that he was convinced that PDP would record a resounding electoral victory at the 2019 general elections once it was be able to do the right things by nothing repeating the mistakes of the past.
