OVER 5,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Suurulere and Ogo Oluwa local government area of Oyo State decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decampee, led by a member of the National Assembly, representing Surulere Ogo Oluwa Federal constituency, Hon Segun Odebunmi, resolved to join APC at a general meeting of the Olusegun Odebunmi Political group in Iresa.
After a thorough deliberation, the motion to drop PDP was raised by Mr Bode Akanni and seconded by Chief Olaniyan Olatunji from Suurulere local government.
Chief Isaac Olawale Atayese said the need to leave the party is necessitated by the injustice and unfair treatment meted out to them after the reconciliation at the state.
Atayese, who was the coordinator for Ogo Oluwa PDP committee for registration said “those who returned to the party have hijacked the system and refused to give us breathing space.
“In the face of struggle, we waited and won the election; we were not consumed by the tsunami that affected many people but the only way to compensate us is to relegate us to the background.
“The don’t allow internal democracy to work in the party. They are encouraging impunity and we cannot be part of it anymore. We need to move on.
In his speech, Hon Odebumi said: “The resolve to join the party is influenced by the decision of his people and political associates.
“Since my early days in politics, I have not been taking decision on my own. Apart from God, my people are the next and they have being very supportive; so whatever they, say I do.
“Immediately we discovered that the leaders in PDP are not ready for genuine reconciliation, I told them to interface with people and decide on where to go and that is the result of what we are doing today and I am sure that our movement to APC will bring more goods and development to our people.”
The two-term PDP lawmaker while declaring support for the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, said, “I want to believe that the government would bring desired transformation to Nigeria.”
