•Disrupt His Lecture On Sustainable Development
RIVERS State Stakeholders have stormed the United Kingdom-based Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), violently reacting against the coming of the State’s Governor, Nyesom Wike, to deliver a Lecture on Sustainable Development, information reaching ReportersAtLarge has revealed.
As of press time, the students, few minutes ago, were still demonstrating so as to scuttle the delivery of his speech, carrying placards with different inscriptions to express their grouses to the Governor.
Recall that some groups; Public Eye on Democracy (PED) and Lawyers’ Network for the Prevention of Electoral Violence (LANPEV), late last week, had jointly released a Press Statement on how such a highly respected think-tank like RIIA could offer its platform for “a discredited politician” like the Governor.
The groups, however, recalled the period before, during and after the elections in the state where violent killings and political assassinations marred the election process and provided information on how the Rivers State Governor bribed some members of the Nigeria Police, electoral officials with about N360 million to manipulate the results of the gubernatorial elections in 2015.
Expressing the fact the Governor needs to define ‘Development’, some of the placards protesters are carrying read: “what is sustainable development when there is no human development?”; “Mr Wike, do not abandon the RSSDA project, please pay our fees”.
