NIGERIA’s most anticipated reality TV Show, Big Brother Naija kicked off on Sunday, June 30th to the excitement of many Nigerians.
As synonymous with the show, the drama is the keyword and a few days down the line into this year’s edition tagged “Pepper Dem”, we have started sniffing a bit of what is to come.
First stop is the opening day which saw this year’s 21 contestants introduced to the viewing audience. Viewers were quick to point out that the posh and “more foreign than Nigerian” contestants didn’t seem like people who auditioned for the show. If you would recall, videos surfaced of thousands of young Nigerians struggling to get into the auditions venue with hopes of being selected.
It was puzzling for many to see Manchester-based Mike, London Police Officer Khafi and Ike who revealed that this is his first time in Lagos making the cut above the Nigerians who flooded audition centres in February.
Another housemate, Simply Tacha trended for almost two days thanks to her bubbly personality and being recognized from several audition clips. Already many are rooting for her and hopes she gets to stay on the show through to the finals.
Contestant Mike is already generating controversy on his part for his marital status and fine boy, good looks as people argue about whether he would be able to uphold his marital vows considering the house is known for its many tempting offerings.
Housemate Seyi on his part has the weight of his family ties weighing down on him as he is the grandson of a late and prominent politician, Obafemi Awolowo. Many are expecting grand things from him and it waits to be seen if he would be able to live up to the fans expectations.
Jeff has since emerged the first head of house for this year’s show. At the end of the task, housemates nominated Jeff to be the Head of House.
According to Big Brother, the HoH gets the honour of sitting on the Head of House seat, a Badge and 500 Bet9ja Coins. The HoH also enjoys the luxury of a tastefully furnished Head of House Bedroom.
