Challenged by the opposition voices against the launching and operation of the Southwest security initiative, codenamed Operation Amotekun, and also by the supports it has received from some quarters, the six Southwest Governors have moved to legalise the initiative.
Operation Amotekun, launched on January 9 this year has since then been receiving kudos and knocks from individuals and political groups
Recall that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami recently declared the initiative as illegal.
The initiators of Operation Amotekun are fast intensifying efforts to ensure that Houses of Assembly in the six Southwest states give the initiative the needed legislation.
It is gathered that every machinery is in motion in all the Houses of Assembly in the state to legalise the establishment of Operation Amotekun.
Against the opposition of the Federal government to the initiative, Operation Amotekun was already in operation and the South West, as the governors in the region are resolute to provide adequate security for the people of the zone.
Recall that the South-West governors during the launching of the initiative noted that it is not a paramilitary organisation but an initiative to complement the various security agencies of the government to tackle kidnappings and killings in the region.
