A fake lawyer, Adedeji Ebenezer Oluwagbenga, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in Ogun State.
The convict was arrested on August 5, 2020 at Itori Chief Magistrate’s Court, Abeokuta, where he was appearing for a client.
His conduct was said to have not been not in the practice of someone who had been called to the bar, an action also noticed by the Chief Magistrate.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, he was subsequently detained at Ewekoro police station, from where he was transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for investigation and prosecution.
Oluwagbenga was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, B.A Somorin, on a count charge of unlawful and illegal appearance as a lawyer, knowing that he was not.
Reporters at Large learnt that the convict first pleaded not guilty, but later changed his plea to guilty when he was confronted with evidence.
The Chief Magistrate reportedly sentenced him to three years in prison with hard labour, without an option of fine.
