Ogun State Police Command has arrested an Islamic teacher, Ismaila Saheed (38), and one Toliha Sabith (20) for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl (name withheld).
Disclosing this, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the suspects were nabbed after the the victim reported the act at Redemption Camp police station.
Reporters At Large gathered that the victim told the police that Sabith forcefully had carnal knowledge of her on August 25, 2020 at Imedu-Nla area of Mowe, which made her go to her Islamic teacher to inform him.
Instead of sympathising with her and taking action over her ordeal, she stated that the Arabic teacher, Saheed, told her that she might have got pregnant as a result of the incident, and offered to help her remove the said pregnancy.
Oyeyemi said: “But surprisingly, instead of ‘removing’ the imaginary pregnancy, he took the advantage of also having carnal knowledge of her, after which he inserted a sharp object into her private part, causing her a serious vaginal injury.”
The PPRO said that the suspects were arrested on August 28 by detectives detailed by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Bala Yakubu, to go after them.
He added that they confessed to committing the crime, while the victim had been admitted into a hospital for medical attention.
The state Commissioner of Police, Edward A Ajogun was said to have directed that the two suspects be transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, in Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The police commissioner also appealed to parents to always be concerned about the well being of their children, “especially the female ones, so as not to make them easy preys for those predators in human skin.”
