An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), Abubakar Abdullahi Bindawa, has been assassinated by his suspected kidnappers after they took N8 million ransom from his family.
According to Daily Trust report, A family member who dropped off the ransom said he was given a location where to meet the abducted operative but found him with a fractured leg and three gunshot wounds.
The operative, Bindawa, 35, was buried on Monday at the Danmarna cemetery after funeral prayer held at his family house in accordance with Islamic rites.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Abdullahi, 6, and Sadiq, 3, his parents and eight siblings.
Bindawa, 35, was kidnapped on Saturday from his residence behind Federal Secretariat, Katsina.
Before his assassination, he worked in the intelligence department of the DSS in Abuja.
He had been to spend the weekend with one of his sons in Katsina last Friday, family sources told Daily Trust.
The attackers wounded a gate security man to gain entry into the house at 10:30pm and took him hostage.
“We have been negotiating with them since the time they contacted us through his phone and we finally stopped at N8m, and that is exactly what I took to them,” said a family member who didn’t want to be named.
“They warned me to come alone and they told me to come with a car because they said they have injured his leg and thus he could not walk,” he said.
“They told me where to meet them and hand over the money to them. After that, they told me to go back to a place where I would meet him, but when I went to the place I did not see him there. It was later we recovered him with fractured leg and three gunshots in his body.”
Katsina Police spokesman, SP Isah Gambo, has yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
