A Kaduna State High Court has dismissed a suit seeking to quash the charges filed by the Kaduna government against the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat.

El-Zakzaky and his wife are facing an eight-count charge of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of the public peace, among other allegations.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has been demanding for the release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky.

But the defendants who were brought to court on Tuesday morning, September 29, amid tight security, insisted that they have no case to answer.

They argued that the Kaduna State government’s case against them lacked evidence. The court, however, dismissed their no-case submission and ordered the continuation of the trial.

Reporters At Large recalls that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shi’ites have been demanding the release of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazaky and his wife who have been in detention since December 2015.

Members of the group have sometimes clashed with security operatives when protesting over the continued detention of their leader.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, over a movie featuring veteran actor Pete Edochie and actress Destiny Etiko.

The Sun reports that the movie titled Fatal Arrogance, directed by the movie producer, Anosike Kingsley Orji is said to be portraying the Islamic movement in a bad light.

In the photos shared by actress Destiny Etiko on her official Instagram page, she was covered in a Muslim hijab while Edochie was dressed like the leader of the Shi’ites, Sheik El-Zakzaky.
