Seven people including five family members were killed at the weekend after a truck crashed into the stationary vehicle carrying the occupants at Gbatse in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Witnesses said the deceased had boarded the vehicle and were waiting to take-off to Gboko town when the truck which was coming from the opposite direction lost control and rammed into them, killing the occupants on the spot.
It was gathered that two lecturers of the University of Mkar in Gboko – Joseph Leva and Moses Tarnongo who died alongside his wife and three children as well as one other, were involved in the accident.
State Commander of Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Aliyu Baba, confirmed to newsmen in Makurdi that a total of seven people lost their lives in the accident while one person sustained injury.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Samuel Ortom, has sympathised with the management, staff and students of University of Mkar.
The governor through his spokesman, Terver Akase, described the incident as devastating and urged relevant agencies to investigate the unfortunate development.
