The Department of State Services (DSS), on Thursday night, confirmed that its operatives carried out a pre-dawn attack on the residence of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya also paraded 11 men and a woman arrested after a battle with Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo alias Igboho in Ibadan, Oyo State in the early hours of today were also paraded this night.
He said the raid was based on intelligence that Igboho was stockpiling arms to cause unrest.
He said when the security operatives approached the house, they were attacked by six Igboho’s boys who engaged them in a gun battle.
Two of Igboho’s men were killed while an operative sustained injuries, Afunanya said.
The operatives recovered a cache of arms and also took the suspects to Abuja while Igboho escaped.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Umbrella Body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye, has reacted to the invasion of the Ibadan, Oyo State Residence of Yoruba Nation Agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho at the early hours of today.
In a statement personally signed by him and made available to REPORTERS AT LARGE by his Communications Manager, Mr Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye, a renowned historian, alleged that the attack was carried out by the elements of the Nigerian Army who were accompanied by international terrorists, hired by the Nigerian State.
