The Afao Ekiti Development Council has felicitated the former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose, and elder Statesman Chief ‘Deji Fasuan, on the conferment of an Award of Recognition and Excellence by the Ekiti State Government.
In a statement signed by the President of the Council, Engr. Sesan Adesuyi, the Council noted that “the dedication, diligence, selfless and meritorious services of the two great sons of the Afao community to Ekiti State, Nigeria and humanity have won them several awards, including this one.”
The Council stated that the Afao-Ekiti community is proud of its achievements and contributions to the development and progress of the state.
Justifying that the awardees were picked on merit, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, said the illustrious Ekiti indigenes were deemed fit for their contributions to the state development in all ramifications.
The Governor spoke through his Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Alh. Ayodele Jinadu noted that Governor Fayose and Chief Fasuan as well as other awardees, have contributed their quotas to the progress of Ekiti State
He added that the conferment of the ‘Oni Uyi Award’ was to recognise and reward distinguished and hardworking individuals who have excelled in their respective careers and support the development of the State.
Also to be honoured in the award ceremony which is being held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the state are former governors Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Engr. Segun Oni, former Military Administrator of the state, citizens who championed the creation of the state in 1996 as well as Aare Afe Babalola, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) top traditional rulers, amongst others.
While appreciating Governor Fayemi for recognizing the efforts of these heroes by honouring them with this ‘Oni Uyi Award’, ADC, the umbrella body of all sons and daughters of Afao Ekiti pray for divine protection and promotion for the two Awardees from the community, other awardees and Ekiti state in general.
