The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National body has urged President Muhammadu Buhari’s immediate evacuation of Nigerian students in Ukraine.
This is coming days after the Russian Ukraine war broke which has claimed several lives and properties, especially of Nigerian students studying in Ukraine.
It was reliably gathered that the Nigerian embassy in Ukraine had earlier called for calm on one hand, and on the other hand, asked Nigerian nationals in Ukraine to be conscious of their security.
This was contained in the letter to the President signed by the president of the Students’ Association Comrade Sunday Adedayo Asefon and the Director of Diaspora Comrade Abiodun Olofe on Thursday, the students’ body said cities occupied by Nigerians were under siege.
“We condemn in totality the statement credited to the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy that anybody within the age of 18 and 60 should not be seen outside and the adequate protection of lives and properties are not guaranteed”.
It would be recalled too that our members in this country are of the same age bracket.
It’s our plea that the Nigerian government led by President Mohammed Buhari ensure the safety and well being of teaming Nigerian youths and most importantly students who are in Ukraine to acquire better and qualitative education and also in Search of better lives.” The statement reads.
The president urged the Nigerian president to act such that Nigerian youth study in Ukraine would not be used to settle the ongoing political war going on between Ukraine and Russia.
