The national coordinator, Fix Nigeria with Atiku, Amb. Makinde Akinlabi Dada, has revealed that Atiku Abubakar is a true defender of democracy.
He said the contributions and achievements of the former Vice President to the propagation and entrenchment of democratic rules and principles for the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria make him worthy as a progressive politician and leader.
In his interactive session on The Podium with Chike Ogbogu of 32FM 94.9, reveals that as vice president to President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, Atiku Abubakar’s high regards for strict compliance to democratic rules and principles would forever remain and be remembered in the history books of democracy in Nigeria.
According to him, “Atiku is a strong advocate of democratic rule in Nigeria as he champions some many courses in the good interest of the people and true governance unlike the generation of do-or-die politicians that believe in violence and unethical conducts during the g election.
“As a vice president, he got a court pronouncement against the totalitarian rule of Obasanjo that a sitting president does not have the right to unilaterally remove his deputy from office at will, without subjecting it to the constitutional laid down procedures.
“In his pursuit of justice and giving the people of Nigeria true democratic voice during elections, he achieved his landmark victory in the court against INEC, if not candidates today would’ve been at the mercy of the electoral body as to whether they’re qualified to stand for election or otherwise. In other words, the electoral body has no constitutional right or electoral act guiding it to disqualify a would-be aspirant.”
