Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians, particularly, Muslim faithfuls, to use the remaining 10 Days of the Ramadan to offer prayers for peace, unity and development of the country and our leaders at all levels.
Speaking at the Iftar, organised by the First Lady of Nigeria, Hajia Aisha Buhari, for presidential aspirants across political party lines, Akpabio, who is widely being called upon by groups, organizations and individuals to throw his hat into the presidential race, went spiritual, saying, ” Let me thank our dear First Lady, for inviting us to join other eminent Nigerians for the break of fast (Iftar), today. This is the last 10 days of the Ramadan fast. The Angels are now very close to the ground. Whatever you wish for yourselves and Nigeria you have the next 10 days to present it and I assure you that Allah will answer you.”
According to the former Senate Minority Leader,” the observance of Easter and Ramadan almost coincided. That means what Nigerians and Nigeria need at this moment is prayers. We need it for our dear President, the first and second families, our party leaders and stakeholders because the devil we see today, in the next few months, we shall see them again, no more.”
Speaking further, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State said, ” running a state or a country is a very serious responsibility. You are carrying on your shoulders the destinies of millions of people. Such persons must therefore, be put in our daily prayers.”
Akpabio also had words of thanks for the First Lady, saying, “our dear mother, what you did today is the right thing. I commend you for that. We witnessed the prayers as we were coming in to break the fast with you. We pray that may the souls of all those who lost their lives in the train mishap be accepted in paradise by Allah. Never in the history of our nation have we said Nigerians should pray, the way we see today. We also pray for the speedy and safe release of those being held captive across the country by kidnappers.”
