Mohammed Salah ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract with Liverpool on Friday that will reportedly run to 2025.
Salah has scored 156 goals in his Liverpool career from just 254 appearances. The tally includes the opener in the 2019 Champions League final as Klopp’s team beat Tottenham Hotspur to lift the trophy.
Last season he scored 31 goals in all competitions and 23 in the Premier League. The latter tally was enough to see him finish top of the goalscoring charts, level with Spurs forward Son Heung-min.
The Egyptian, who finished last season as the Reds’ top scorer last season, was previously on a deal running until 2023. The new deal will keep him at Liverpool until 2025, with the deal-making him the highest-paid player in the club’s history with wages in excess of £350,000 per week.
The former Chelsea and AS Roma forward has been a key man for Liverpool since joining from the Italian club in 2017, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side win the Premier League and Champions League among other trophies. The news comes not long after Liverpool lost another of their title-winning forwards, with Sadio Mane moving to Bayern Munich.
The deal has been clinched ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season tour, which will see them take on the likes of Manchester United and RB Leipzig. The Reds begin their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 6 as they look to improve on last season’s second-place finish.
“I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club,” Salah told liverpoolfc.com. “It’s a happy day for everyone.
“It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next. I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards].
“Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season, we lost two trophies. I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again.”
Liverpool have already added to their squad this summer, with Darwin Nunez joining from Benfica. The Uruguayan frontman has joined in a deal which could make him the club’s record signing if all clauses are met.
The Reds have also completed a deal to bring Fabio Carvalho to Anfield from Fulham, while Luis Diaz is preparing for a first full season with the club after arriving in January.
“My message [to the fans] is the players in the team want to give our best next season to try to win all the trophies,” Salah continued.. “As usual, you stay behind us and give us a big push and I am sure we are going to win trophies again [together].”
