Five Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform met in Enugu State on Sunday before the 2023 presidential elections.
It was learnt that the discussion centred on how to deliver the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in 2023.
The Governors are Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikeazu of Abia State and the host Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
According to the insider, the five governors were moved to back Peter Obi’s candidacy because they are uncomfortable with the PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.
Key sources say the governors’ decision may not be unconnected to the crisis rocking the main opposition party.
The crisis, which was birthed by the face-off between Wike and the former vice president, degenerated despite efforts by party stakeholders to quell the Cold War.
