For the umpteenth time, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has been named one of the ten leading universities in Nigeria.

Its position on the list also confirmed the university’s ranking as the best state university.

The Times Higher Education (THE), which examined 1,799 universities across 104 countries, declared LAUTECH the tenth-best in Nigeria.

The ranking table is based on 13 performance indicators: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Times Higher Education’s report on LAUTECH

Times Higher Education (THE) is a British magazine that reports specifically on news and issues related to higher education. The first issue came out in October 1971, so this is the first time LAUTECH has appeared, and the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu, describes it as translating to commendable progress for the institution.

In another but similar development, Just Events, an online publication, released what it called Nigeria’s Best Universities 2023, listing 12 institutions, of which LAUTECH still ranked as the only listed state-owned university.

In the meantime, LAUTECH, committed to maintaining its leadership position among its peers, has inked a memorandum of understanding on transnational programmes with the University of Kentucky, located in Lexington, USA.

The collaboration aims to have qualified PhD candidates from seven LAUTECH academic engineering programmes do their research and academic programmes in Kentucky. It aims to enhance staff and students’ development and improve LAUTECH’s international ranking.

The Engineering courses included in the arrangement include Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, among others. LAUTECH‘s Director in charge of the International Office, Professor Timothy Ipoola Olabiyi, explained that the new relationship seeks to establish and recognise a formal connection between the two institutions.

He listed other Engineering Courses, including Chemical and Agricultural Engineering.

Meanwhile, REPORTERS AT LARGE earlier reported that the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is ranked first among Nigerian universities and 401-500th out of over 1,799 institutions worldwide, the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings released on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, reveals.
