The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed that a bank gave one of his fellow governors N500m in new Naira notes. Nigerians lament their inability to get the cash.
El-Rufai, said this in an exclusive interview with the BBC, part of which was published on Friday.
He stated that the 10-day extension given by the Central Bank of Nigeria was insufficient as more time was needed.
“Yesterday, I was told that one of our governors got N500m in new notes from the bank. It was the bank that gave him.
“What of the average man on the street selling tomatoes and trying to survive? That is why I have said that the 10-day extension is not enough. We want months of extension.
“There is nowhere in the world that currency exchange doesn’t happen but they don’t give limited time such as this one for currency swap and not close to elections.”
