The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale has inaugurated a high-level committee to plan, coordinate and execute various activities to mark the 75th anniversary of the institution.
This is contained in a release made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday by Mrs Joke Akinpelu, the institution’s media director.
In preparation for the celebration tagged “UI@75”, Adebowale noted that because of the special nature of the event, the committee was inaugurated early to give it enough time to prepare for the events to celebrate the anniversary billed to come up later in the year.
Adebowale expressed his confidence in the committee, noting that the members were people of adequate experience who would add value to the given task.
He charged them to start earnestly as the committee’s task would involve fundraising, among others.
The VC announced Prof. Peter Olapegba, a member of the University Governing Council, and the Director of the University Alumni Office as the Chairman/Convener of the Committee, adding that the full membership will be released soon.
Adebowale charged the committee with fully engaging the University of Ibadan alumni community and ensuring the university’s 75th anniversary is appropriately celebrated.
The Chairman/Convener, UI@75 Committee, Prof. Olapegba thanked the University management for the confidence reposed in him.
He promised to do his best to discharge the enormous task ahead.
The University of Ibadan, established in 1948, would be 75 years later in 2023.
