The residents of Ilaro-Yewa in Ogun State have urged Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, to immediately assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the murder of Chief (Engr) Femi Egbeoluwa, the Sogunro of Ilaro-Yewa, and his wife.
It would be recalled that unknown gunmen assassinated the couple in the early hours of Saturday, March 18, 2023.
According to an interview conducted by REPORTERS AT LARGE within and outside the ancient town of Ilaro-Yewa, the people condemned the dastardly act of killers of their illustrious son and his wife, both of whom they described as peaceful, kind, easygoing and God-fearing during their lifetime.
They passionately appealed to IGP Usman Baba to use his good offices to unravel the killing of the couple, who had contributed immensely to the socio-cultural development of Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
However, the Ilaro-Yewa people expressed their confidence in the IGP and the Nigerian Police officers and men as efficient and devoted security agents who uphold international standards.
All the people interviewed by REPORTERS AT LARGE noted that the couple were socialites that had no interest in frivolous activities, rather loved and assisted anyone that came their ways.
Recall that the couple were murdered by yet-to-be-identified assassins who also injured their house help during the dastardly act.
According to a police source, the incident occurred at number 1 Adefolu Drive near New World Hotel, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, and the Lagos Police Command said it has launched a manhunt for the killers.
It was also learnt that following the receipt of the distress call, some of the neighbours rushed to the house, where they found the Egbeoluwas dead and their domestic staff severely beaten.
“The neighbours immediately called 112, and they were waiting for a response from the police”, a witness who do not want her name mentioned said.
The police officer said that the bodies of the deceased couple were found following a distress call that was sent to it by some neighbours in the area.
Though no arrest has been made, the tragedy has thrown the entire neighbourhood of the deceased into instant mourning.
The remains of the couple, who were described as very responsible and easygoing, have been evacuated to a public mortuary.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, was yet to give further clarification on the crime as at the time of filing this report.
