Muhammadu Buhari, the outgoing president of Nigeria, has given his approval for 15 airports to be renamed in honour of notable Nigerians.
The approval was given on Friday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Aviation signed by Odutayo Oluseyi, Head of Press and Public Affairs.
The airports include the Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu-named Akure International Airport, the Oba Akinzua II-designated Benin International Airport, the Muhammed Nuhu Sanusi-designated Dutse International Airport, the Chuba Wilberforce-designated Ebonyi International Airport Okadigbo, and the Brigadier Zakari Maimalari-designated Gombe International Airport.
They also include General Tunde Abdullahi Idiagbon at Ilorin International Airport, Samuel Ladoke Akintola at Ibadan International Airport, Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina at Kaduna International Airport, and President Muhammadu Buhari at Maiduguri International Airport.
Others include renaming Minna International Airport Mall and Makurdi International Airport after Joseph Sarwuan Tarka. Abubakar Imam; Sheikh Usman Danfodio International Airport at Nasarrawa; Alfred Diete Spiff International Airport at Osubi; Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo International Airport at Port Harcourt; and Lamido Aliyu Mustapha International Airport at Yola.
