Access Bank Plc branches in Kaduna State have been sealed by the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service’s enforcement division.
Branch locations that have incurred tax liabilities include Ali Akilu Road, Isah Kaita Road, Kano Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kwato Road, Kachia Road, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, and Bida Road.
According to Mr Zakari Muhammad, head of corporate communications, the affected bank and firms were shut down as a result of a court order after they failed to pay N419.3 million in back taxes.
The Regional Office of Transmission Company of Nigeria and six other businesses were also flagged by the agency for having unpaid taxes totalling N419.3 million.
Access Bank received N249.9 million, Transmission Company of Nigeria’s regional office received N56.3 million, Transmission Company of Nigeria’s sub-regional office received N67.7 million, and Sky Express Airways received N5.4 million, according to Muhammad.
Others include Premier Feed Mills (N7 million), China Zhonghao Nigeria (N8.6 million), Indomie Noodle (Kaduna), N9.3 million, and Azman Air Services (N15,2 million).
He cited Section 104, subsections 3 and 4 of the Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2011, and Section 37, subsections 3 and 4 of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020, as the legal documents that gave the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) the authority to seal the locations of businesses that failed to pay taxes due to the state.
