Governor Zulum, an alumnus of the UI, brokered a meeting between the visiting Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, and the Vice Chancellor of Borno State University, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe. Sandabe said Borno State University can greatly benefit from the University of Ibadan, the premier university in Nigeria.

At a meeting attended by the Registrars of both institutions and other top officers, Professor Adebowale said the 75-year-old University of Ibadan operates the committee system and that the Committees regulate the University’s activities.

He assured the fledgling four-year-old Borno State University that UI was ready to develop manpower for the academic and non-teaching staff.

Professor Sandabe said that although Borno State University appreciates the mentoring roles of the University of Maiduguri, it would be willing to cooperate with UI, especially in the postgraduate training of its young lecturers and non-academic staff.

Professor Sandabe said the Faculties would soon be expanded, and more manpower would be required.

The two vice-chancellors agreed to formalise arrangements as soon as possible by signing the Memoranda of Understanding and Memoranda of Agreement to foster deep, sustainable, long-lasting relationships.
