“Good governance has been described as the panacea for sustainable development on peace, while building a culture of peace is sacrosanct for meaningful development at Sustainable Level”.
Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke, the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam, Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, disclosed this during the occasion of World Peace Day organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates, held at Jogor Centre, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Prof. Olagoke, the State Patron of the Nigeria Justice of the Peace, Oyo State Chapter, was the guest lecturer at the occasion. He hinted that Working the Talk of Democracy to have Sustainable Development will generate the needed peace.
“The United Nations in her wisdom therefore developed a programme backed up with grants which if followed accordingly as supposed, would have raised the Human Development Index (HDI) of any Nation that adopted the United Nations procedures.
He said that the SDGs were therefore developed with specific time bounds and the needed development components, charged every Nation to follow as a guide to promoting an Inclusive Society that will be crime-free.
The renowned Scholar in his lecture titled “#ACT4SDGs, Peace As A Tool For Sustainable Development” however promotes the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs that is, the Physiological needs, Safety and Security needs, Social needs, Self-esteem and Actualisation which according to him would by extension affect the integrity test of the elderly ones with implication on the country’s inability to produce right elder statesman. Right Elder Statesmen must equally pass the integrity Test of Olagoke’s Hierarchy of Attitudinal Needs for Total Personality: Self-actualization, Mentorship, Ethical Practice and Guide, Role Modelling, Altruism and Total Personality. Such people will be respected as opinion moulders for society, including those charged with the responsibility of governance in any capacity.
The cleric also added that all forms of discrimination and marginalisation against Women and People With Disability (PWD) should end by being compliant with the promotion of Inclusive Society.
“We must Work the Talk of the International Day of Peace, ( IDP) by ending racism to build Peace and searching for Peace and Harmony and Sustainable Development to glue the ties of Peaceful coexistence for all to collectively create a Nation that is Justice and Equity driven to be able to have Peace and Sustainable Development in a safe and well-secured environment “.
The event, however, witnessed the appointment of notable Nigerians drawn from all sectors of the economy as Peace Ambassadors.
