A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Abiodun Adediran Olatunji, has said that he became an orphan in his final year at the University of Ibadan, but he received assistance from unknown persons.
He said the assistance he received from others as an orphan made him decide to give back to society. This, he said, motivates him to help others.
He made these statements at his decoration as a UI@75 Ambassador in Ibadan.
According to the learned silk, he had through his Foundation assisted many indigent Law students to attend the Nigerian Law School over the years.
Mr Olatunji said his decoration as a UI@75 Ambassador is a further call to do more for humanity and his Alma Mater.
He assured the University of Ibadan team that he would key into the fundraising efforts by leveraging his friends, colleagues, business associates and family members.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, had earlier told the legal practitioner that he was being recognised because he had distinguished himself in his private and public life and had contributed substantially to the national and global economy.
He noted that Mr Olatunji’s desire to promote the welfare of others, especially the less privileged is unparalleled.
Mr Olatunji, according to the Vice Chancellor, had in the past donated commendably generously to the University of Ibadan, the Faculty of Law and students of the University.
Mr Olatunji was supported by a few of his friends to receive the honour. Those in attendance included Prince Dele Abolarin, Mr Victor Edet, Mr A. B. O. O. Oyediran (son of a former Vice-Chancellor of UI) and Dr Adesoji Taiwo, the President of the Ibadan Recreation Club.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN; the University Librarian, Dr Mercy A. Iroaganachi; Chairman of UI@75 Anniversary Committee, Professor Peter Olapegba; Dean of Law, Professor Simisola O. Akintola; member UI@75 Committee, Dr Demola Lewis and the Principal Assistant Registrar/Public Relations Officer, Mrs Adejoke O. Akinpelu.
