Governor Mai Mala Buni married 45-year-old Gumsu on April 14, 2021, and paid a dowry of 24 gold coins.
The marriage ceremony took place at the Abuja residence of her elder brother, Mohammed Abacha. In attendance were the then Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali; the former National Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Bashir Garba-Lado; and the Kano-based Islamic cleric Aminu Daurawa, among others.
Gumsu was previously married to a Cameroonian billionaire, Bayero Mohamadou, but the 20-year-old marriage ended in 2020.
