The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, will minister at the interdenominational church service for the coronation of the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III.
The chairman of the Central Coronation Planning Committee, Prof. Adesola Adepoju, revealed this and other programmes and events lined up for Oba Ghandi’s coronation, slated to be held between December 14 and 19, 2023, during a press conference held today at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club in Ogbomoso.
REPORTERS AT LARGE recalls that on September 2, 2023, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde approved the selection of Prince Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye of Olaoye Ruling House, who was selected by the family and the kingmakers in Ogbomoso as the successor of the late Oba Jimoh Oladuni Oyewumi, Soun Ajagunbade Ill.
On September 8, the kingmakers in Ogbomosho, led by the Areago of Ogbomosho, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin, installed Prince Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomosho at Abata. Also on Thursday, September 14, the Ikije was held in Ogbomosho palace amidst a large turnout of sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland who thronged the palace to witness the historic ceremony and welcome the new Soun.
The outlined programme of events for Oba Olaoye’s coronation is the arrival and empowerment program at the Palace 2023, on Thursday 14; Jumat Service in the morning at the Palace Evening: Welcome reception for the golfers of Oba Ghandi Golf Tournament at the Recreation Club on Friday, 15; while Oba Ghandi Golf Tournament at the Recreation Club will be held in the morning of Saturday 16; and traditional celebrations and entertainment at the palace in the evening.
Other events included an interdenominational coronation church service with Pastor E. A. Adeboye ministering by 11am at Beulah Centre on Sunday 17; a praise and worship night and concert at LAUTECH on Monday 18; and the presentation of the staff of the office/coronation event and reception on Tuesday 19 at the Ogbomoso Township Stadium.
Prof. Adepoju disclosed that dignitaries from all walks of life, including traditional kings, representatives from the government at all levels, serving and former governors, captains of industry, members of the diplomatic corps, sons and daughters of Ogbomoso, the diaspora, and friends of Ogbomoso, are expected to attend the coronation. He noted that the Committee is working with the different arms of security agencies to provide adequate security for lives and properties during the events, as well as travel routes that will be issued later.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Central Coronation Planning Committee informed newsmen that “the little hitches occasioned by the court proceedings are relatively settled. We are optimistic that all forms of dispute on the ascension to the throne will soon be a thing of the past.”
