President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi has appointed Ms Philda Nani Kereng as the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
Before her appointment, High Commissioner-Designate Kereng served as the Minister of Environment and Tourism, where her exemplary leadership in transforming Botswana’s tourism industry was marked by initiatives that expanded citizen involvement, diversified tourism services, and reinforced Botswana’s status as a regional leader in tourism and investment.
She brings a wealth of experience to the Botswana Foreign Service, including her contributions to advancing rural, industrial, and community development, as evidenced by her sociological research and her partnership with organisations like the US African Development Foundation.
Ms. Kereng holds a Master of Arts in Sociology of Development from the University of Essex and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Public Administration from the University of Botswana.
She also received the Leadership Excellence Award (2021) from the African Tourism Board and the Destination Africa Lifetime Award (2023), which recognised her notable contributions in positioning Botswana as a MICE and key tourist destination.
High Commissioner-Designate Kereng’s appointment is with immediate effect.
