The Ogun State Government on Thursday began demolishing shanties and makeshift structures erected under bridges and public places across the state.
The operation’s leader, Farouk Akintunde, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, stated that the demolition action was carried out following the expiration of the notice given to the traders.
He continued by saying that there is now insecurity since the shanties have turned into a haven for crooks.
“We have issued them a notice since last year, but they have refused to leave,” Akintunde stated. The expiration date of the notification has passed. We are coming to destroy all improvised, shanties, and unlawful structures for this reason.
The authorities will not put up with this since these shantytowns have turned into havens for criminal activity. It’s an ongoing workout.
It was gathered that the demolition has taken place in the state’s Abeokuta South Local Government Area’s Panseke, Kuto, and Nwarudeen neighbourhoods.
