A bill seeking the upgrade of the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, and Ibadan to a Federal University of Technology status has scaled second reading on the floor of the House of Representatives.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide (Odidiomo) is to provide quality education in agriculture and related fields, thereby boosting food security and economic development in Nigeria.
The College of Agriculture, formerly called School of Agricultur located at Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State, was established in 1921 as a research centre. It has since grown to become a renowned institution in agriculture and related fields.
According to Hon. Olajide, “The upgrade will enhance the institution’s capacity to produce high-level manpower in agriculture, technology, and other related fields.”
The bill, which has received widespread support from stakeholders, including the academia, farmers, and other experts in the field of agriculture, is expected to revolutionize agriculture manpower production and training in Nigeria.
Odidiomo noted that the bill, when passed into law and assented, is expected to be a significant milestone in the development of agriculture in Nigeria, leading to improved food security and economic development.
Hon. Olajide then promised to ensure that all necessary machineries are set in motion to ensure that the federal government provides adequate funding and infrastructure for the smooth take-off of the University of Technology.
The bill and many other laudable activities of the lawmaker in the national Assembly is a testament to Hon Olajide Odidiomo’s determination to contribute to national development and provide a dividend of democracy to his constituents.
