A bomb blast on Monday rocked an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu community of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving one student dead and four others severely injured.
The explosion occurred around midday in the quiet community, located about 42 kilometres from Abuja’s city centre.
Emergency responders, including the police bomb disposal unit, arrived promptly at the scene, while the injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
According to a security source, the deceased student was reportedly in possession of a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which detonated unexpectedly.
Mr Ashimu, the owner of the Islamic school, has been arrested, the police said, noting that he will be “interrogated immediately and the outcome would be forwarded.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion in the Nigerian capital. However, different armed groups including some linked to the Islamic State operate in northern Nigeria.
