An expert in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Mr David Afolayan, said technological resources can drive and accelerate Oyo State’s overall development.

Afolayan, a technology consultant to the Oyo State Government, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday.

He said the state had invested in various technological resources across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) over the years.

According to him, the government intends to mine these technologies for effectiveness and efficiency in achieving ‘Omituntun 2.0, the state’s developmental agenda, as no good plan can execute itself.

“We want to identify these existing resources, optimise them, and bring them to the good use of Oyo State,” he said.

The state’s development agenda focuses on the economy, education, health and security.

Afolayan, from GIS Konsult Limited in Ibadan, asserted that if the stakeholders who intended to contribute to their achievements disagreed, all promises would fail.

According to him, to achieve accelerated growth, the administration plans to ensure everyone knows and takes their next steps, fostering collaboration for improved performance.

“We want to repurpose existing technologies, particularly spatial technology, to create a visual dashboard for the governor to monitor his plans and their actualisations.

“With this, the governor can recognise and endorse everyone’s contributions,” he said.

The consultant said five MDAs had expressed interest in participating in the project to achieve the governor’s goals.

“These ministries include the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Works and Transport, and the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

“The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development includes the Surveyor General’s Office and Physical Planning and Urban Development.

“Others are the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency (OYSMIDA) and the Oyo State Security Trust Fund,” Afolayan said.

He said the five pilot MDAs would identify and efficiently deploy GIS resources for sustainable development.

“What we are doing goes beyond project management. We aim to provide the governor with a geo-visualisation platform that will enable him to monitor the fulfilment of his promises.

“This is not just about operational performance monitoring but about how every project, activity, or initiative by Oyo State MDAs is geared toward achieving and delivering the Omitutun promises,” said the state consultant.
