The Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan (FCAIB), took a significant step towards infrastructural development today, holding a transparent and well-attended technical bids opening ceremony for its 2025 capital projects.

Held at the College Auditorium, the event underscored FCAIB’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and adherence to the Public Procurement Act of 2007.

The meticulously organized ceremony, overseen by the College Tenders Board, saw the opening of technical bids from seventy-one (71) bidders, a testament to the robust interest in the College’s ambitious development plans. This followed an initial invitation to seventy-eight (78) potential bidders.

The event was graced by the presence of key College officials, including the Provost, Prof. Jonathan J. Atungwu; Deputy Provosts Dr. Musiliu O. Adenekan and Dr.(Mrs.) Victoria E. Okpeze; the Registrar, Mr. Abimbade S. Abass; and other members of the College Management and Procurement Committees. Notably, the immediate past Provost, Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Augustus, also attended, demonstrating the continuity and shared commitment to the College’s growth.

Beyond the College leadership, the event attracted external observers, including the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (Ibadan Branch), Engr. Ayokunmi Ojedele; the Executive Director of Life Builders (NGO); and a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Assistant Chief Superintendent Ndukwe Oscar, further emphasizing the emphasis on accountability and preventing corruption.

Engr. Dr. Oluwaseun Akinyele, Head of the Procurement Unit, anchored the proceedings, welcoming participants and guiding the process. The bids opening involved the careful inspection, sorting, and official opening of submitted tenders, followed by a formal signing of the bidders’ register.

The 71 bids were categorized under eight major project lots:

  1. 1. Construction and provision of electricity and solar power systems
    2. Construction and furnishing of an ultramodern library
    3. Rehabilitation and furnishing of College halls, offices, classrooms, and laboratories
    4. Construction of an Agricultural Central Administrative Office Complex
    5. Renovation of students’ hostels
    6. Construction and furnishing of Animal Production Laboratories
    7. Construction and furnishing of the Engineering Building Complex
    8. Provision of computers and ICT facilities

In his opening remarks, Provost Atungwu reiterated the College’s unwavering commitment to fairness and integrity in the procurement process. He emphasized his impartiality and urged all participants to view the exercise as a collective effort towards institutional growth. He also commended the Procurement Unit and all staff involved for their dedication.

The Provost’s commitment to transparency was echoed in the comments from some bidders, who praised the College for its well-organized and open process. These positive affirmations signal confidence in the upcoming evaluation stages.

The ceremony concluded with the separation of technical and financial bids. The FCAIB will now proceed with a thorough evaluation of the technical proposals, ensuring that only the most qualified contractors are selected for the execution of the 2025 capital projects.

The 2025 Technical Bids Opening marks a crucial milestone in FCAIB’s ongoing drive for infrastructural development, transparency, and sustainable institutional growth. It demonstrates the College’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment and fostering its position as a leading agricultural institution in Nigeria.
