The eight-year tenure of Alhaji Rasaq Balogun Arogundade-led executives of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era ended on Friday, December 12, 2025, and all the national executives of the Yoruba socio-cultural organization have stepped aside.

The national executives of the OPC said they stepped aside to allow the Elders Council of the group to put in place new executives after their two terms of four years each.

One of the outgoing executives, who spoke with our correspondent under the cover of anonymity, said their action became necessary to ensure stability in the organization and to follow due process.

“Our executives, led by Alhaji Rasaki Balogun Arogundade (Sadam), completed our eight-year tenure, which consisted of two terms of four years, today, Friday, December 12, 2025. That is why we have to quit, as stipulated in the OPC New Era’s constitution,” he explained.

“This move is to pave the way for the Elders’ Council to announce new national executives.”

He maintained that the outgoing executives had been preparing to hand over the leadership of the organization to another national executive since September this year.

“Our executives, led by Sadam, emerged eight years ago, with an agreement by both the National Coordinating Council (NCC) and the Elders Council of the group that the executives would be dissolved after two terms of four years each.”

He said the procedure is that all appointments made eight years ago would be terminated by the end of September this year in preparation for the constitution of new executives.

According to him, after completing their eight-year tenure, a new set of executives is expected to be put in place by the Elders Council.
