A bomb explosion at a Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque, around Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri, Borno State, during evening prayers has reportedly claimed at least four lives and left 14 others injured on Wednesday evening.
Confirming the development, the Borno State Police Command said four of the victims were pronounced dead at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
In a brief statement issued on Wednesday evening, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, called for calm and assured residents that the entire area had been cordoned.
The statement read, “Ongoing sweeping operations by police EOD as a suspected explosion incident was recorded at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market today at about 1800HRS during prayers.
“Police EOD personnel have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety, while investigations are ongoing.”
