The House of Representatives committee on ICT and Cybersecurity on thursday, carried out an oversight visit to the National Shared Services Centre, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and cybersecurity framework.

The delegation, led by the chairman, House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, engaged the management of Galaxy Backbone Limited in discussions centred on the organization’s statutory mandate, operational reach and strategic roadmap in advancing the federal government’s digital transformation agenda.

Speaking during the visit, Olajide described Galaxy Backbone as a critical national asset positioned at the heart of government’s digital services and inter-agency connectivity.

He emphasized that institutions such as galaxy backbone play a pivotal role in securing government data, enhancing service delivery and promoting efficiency across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

According to him, sustained legislative backing and increased investment in government ICT institutions are essential to achieving economic growth, strengthening national security and enhancing Nigeria’s global competitiveness in the digital economy.

“Our digital infrastructure must be secure and future ready. Galaxy Backbone occupies a strategic position in this regard and the national assembly remains committed to supporting initiatives that improve its capacity to deliver on its mandate,” Olajide said.

He noted that the oversight engagement provided an opportunity for the committee to assess ongoing projects, understand operational challenges and identify areas requiring policy or budgetary intervention.

Olajide reiterated that collaboration between the legislature and key digital institutions remains indispensable to building a secure and inclusive digital environment that supports governance, innovation and sustainable development.

The oversight visit forms part of the committee’s broader mandate to ensure accountability, transparency and effective implementation of policies guiding the country’s ICT and cybersecurity ecosystem.
