In the hallowed political history of Oyo State, leadership has never been merely about titles; it has been about the grit of one’s character and the depth of one’s roots. As the race for the Ibadan South West Constituency 1 seat in the State House of Assembly intensifies, one name has begun to resonate with the clarity of a bell: Olaleye Muhmin Olatayo.

His story is not one of accidental ambition, but of a deliberate, lifelong preparation for service.

Olaleye Muhmin Olatayo: A Heritage of Honour

Born and raised in the heart of the city at Alaadorin Isale Osi, Olatayo is a son of the soil in the truest sense. As a scion of the Olaleye Alaadorin Royal Family, he carries the weight of a legacy that prizes community over the individual. This upbringing in the traditional corridors of Ibadan provided him with an early education in the “Omoluabi” ethos—the Yoruba concept of courage, hard work, and integrity.

It was Chief Obafemi Awolowo who famously remarked: “The children of yesterday are the leaders of today… if we do not provide them with the right foundation, the edifice of our nationhood will continue to totter.”

For Olaleye Muhmin Olatayo, that foundation was laid in the classrooms and playgrounds of Progressive Day School and Oke Bola Comprehensive High School, where his peers consistently identified him as a natural arbiter. From serving as Assistant Head Boy to the disciplined role of Labour Prefect, he learned early that to lead is, first and foremost, to serve.

The Revolutionary Representative

Olatayo’s time at The Polytechnic Ibadan remains a defining chapter in his journey. Pursuing Electrical Electronics Engineering, he was not content with academic excellence alone. During his National Diploma years, he served as a Departmental Auditor, ensuring transparency in student administration.

However, it was during his Higher National Diploma (HND) years that his mettle was truly tested. In an era where formal student unionism faced immense challenges, Olatayo led the “Revolutionary Team” of the Faculty of Engineering. Serving as a faculty representative to the management in the absence of a central union, he became the voice for thousands—a role that required the diplomatic finesse of a statesman and the courage of an activist.

A Technocrat’s Precision

Beyond the political arena, Olatayo is a seasoned professional whose career is built on technical discipline and “excellence at all times.” His tenure at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) since 2016, and his previous experience at Sweetco Foods Ltd and NNPC, have shaped him into a pragmatic problem-solver.

In a legislative house where complex bills regarding infrastructure, energy, and commerce are debated, Olatayo’s background as an Engineer offers a distinct advantage. He does not just see problems; he sees blueprints for solutions. He understands that the development of Oyo State requires more than rhetoric—it requires the “precision and analytical skills” he has honed over nearly two decades in the private sector.

The Disciple of Excellence

Political leadership is often a craft passed from master to apprentice. Olatayo’s political philosophy was forged under the tutelage of the late Hon. Kehinde Hassan Subair, the revered former Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly. Under Subair’s mentorship, Olatayo observed firsthand the intricacies of legislative governance and the art of grassroots mobilisation.

His previous foray as a councillor candidate in Ward 2 during the administration of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi further cemented his status as a politician who is as comfortable in the halls of power as he is on the streets of Isale Osi.

Olaleye Muhmin Olatayo: The Choice for Ibadan South West

As Ibadan South West Constituency 1 looks toward the future, the requirements for the office are clear: a representative who understands the law, respects the culture, and possesses the technical capacity to drive societal development.

Olaleye Muhmin Olatayo is that rare candidate who bridges the gap between the old-world values of our fathers and the tech-driven demands of the modern era. He is a man who believes, as the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande did, that the primary duty of government is the welfare of the people, delivered with transparency and passion.

From the royal courts of Alaadorin to the engineering hubs of Ibadan, Olaleye Muhmin Olatayo has proven that he is ready to engineer a more prosperous, more equitable Ibadan. For the residents of Ibadan South West, the choice is not just for a politician—it is for a partner in progress.
