A Soun of Ogbomoso chieftaincy suspension has indefinitely removed Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun from his position as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland.

The monarch, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), cited “sustained acts of insubordination” and a lack of respect toward the traditional stool.

The decision was formalised in a letter dated 23 March 2026. Signed by the Palace Secretary, Toyin Ajamu, the document describes the senator’s conduct as a “wilful disregard” for the authority of the palace that has become a matter of grave concern.

Senator Ayoade Adeseun Mayegun Title Revoked

The palace confirmed that Senator Ayoade Adeseun Mayegun’s title is now suspended due to behaviour that falls short of the dignity expected of such a revered office. The monarch’s letter stressed that the senator’s actions, both in public and private, demonstrated a consistent and unacceptable disregard for the traditions and sanctity of the Palace.

It reads, “I write on behalf of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), the Soun of Ogbomosoland and Paramount Ruler of Ogbomosoland, concerning your recent and continued conduct, which has become a matter of grave concern and embarrassment to the Palace and the revered stool of the Soun.

“It is with deep regret, yet with a firm sense of royal duty and responsibility, that His Imperial Majesty has taken cognisance of your sustained acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect toward the Palace and the sacred institution it represents. These actions, observed over a considerable period and manifested through various utterances and behaviours, fall significantly short of the dignity, honour, and responsibility expected of a chief of this Palace and the holder of the esteemed title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland.

“Your conduct, both in public and in private, has demonstrated a consistent and unacceptable disregard for the authority, traditions, and sanctity of the Palace. Such a pattern of behaviour is incompatible with the obligations and expectations attached to your chieftaincy title.

“Accordingly, in the exercise of his royal prerogative and authority as the Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), hereby suspends you, Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, indefinitely from the office and chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland, with immediate effect from the date of this letter.”

Ogbomoso Palace Insubordination Claims Detailed

The Ogbomoso palace insubordination claims have led to a direct order for the lawmaker to cease parading himself as the Mayegun. This directive applies to all public events, official engagements, and social media platforms with immediate effect.

Royal Prerogative and Future Compliance

In exercising his royal prerogative, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye directed the senator to “cease and desist” from using the title in any capacity. The palace warned that the suspension remains in force indefinitely.

His Imperial Majesty expected full compliance to preserve the authority and dignity of the traditional institution, trusting that the senator would avoid further actions that might undermine the Ogbomoso throne.
