Ibadan Cultural Festival 2026, organised by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), reached a high point on Thursday. During the event, Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole (Wolekanle)—received the prestigious Icon of Ibadan Heritage Award.
Akinwole, who serves as the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, was celebrated alongside other notable figures. These leaders were chosen for their vital roles in the progress of Ibadanland and the wider Oyo State.
Recognition for Impactful Governance
The council specifically noted Wolekanle’s work within the Local Government Service Commission. His dedication to grassroots development and effective governance across the state formed the basis for this top honour.
The award ceremony took place during a Business Dinner at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium axis. CCII President-General, Niyi Ajewole, presented the award as part of the week-long cultural celebrations. Pastor Adeola Oduola, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, accepted the plaque on behalf of Wolekanle.
A Renewed Commitment to Service
In a statement following the event, Wolekanle called the award a “great honour and a call to greater service.” He thanked the CCII for the recognition, noting that the award would inspire him to do more for his people.
“The gesture would further strengthen my resolve to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Ibadanland and Oyo State,” Wolekanle remarked.
He also promised to keep pushing for policies that help local government and improve life for those at the grassroots level.
