A university professor in Oyo State has petitioned Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over the “fraudulent” disappearance of nearly N10 million from his account.

The Professor, who pleaded anonymity, is demanding an immediate reversal of the funds after two massive transactions were allegedly drained from his account within just two minutes.

According to a formal petition submitted by the professor’s solicitors on 21 February 2026, the unauthorised activity took place during a mid-morning window when the academic says he was not even using his banking app.

The breakdown of the alleged theft reveals a precise, high-speed operation:

  • 10:19 am: A transfer of N4,990,000 was sent to an account held by “Isah Ahmed Ahmed” on the Paga financial platform.
  • 10:21 am: A second transfer of N4,990,000 was sent to “Nasir Nasir Sanusi,” also via the Paga platform.

In total, N9,980,000 was removed from the don’s savings in the space of 120 seconds.

Meanwhile, the professor has maintained a firm stance that his security details remained private. His legal team insists that he neither initiated the transfers nor disclosed his Personal Identification Number (PIN), security tokens, or login credentials to any third party.

Our client categorically denies authorising the transactions and holds the bank responsible for the unauthorised debits which occurred within its banking infrastructure and security framework,” the petition stated.

The solicitors argued that the bank breached its “duty of care” to safeguard the professor’s life savings, suggesting the breach occurred within the bank’s own systems rather than through user error.

The petition has been formally served to the branch manager in Oyo and copied to the bank’s legal department. The professor’s representatives have issued a seven-day ultimatum for the full restoration of the funds.

Accordihg to the Don, should the bank fail to refund the money within this window, his legal team warned they are prepared to institute formal legal proceedings against the financial institution.

GTBank has yet to issue a public statement regarding the specific details of this case.
