Senator Sharafadeen Alli has called for stronger collaboration with the European Union to boost Nigeria agricultural development. He stressed the need to leverage bilateral strength and goodwill to achieve sustainable agricultural objectives.

A Strategic Visit to the EU Embassy

Alli, who serves as the Senate Committee Chairman on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, made the call on Wednesday. During his courtesy visit to the EU Embassy in Abuja, the lawmaker briefed officials on the committee’s programmes while seeking a strategic EU-Nigeria partnership.

The collaboration focuses on the First National Legislative Summit and Expo on Agricultural Colleges and Research Institutions. This event is scheduled for May 11 to May 13 in Ibadan.

IITA to Host Landmark Agricultural Summit

The senator confirmed the summit will take place at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). The event aims to strengthen agricultural research institutions and promote innovation in education.

Alli noted that the partnership would “enhance capacity building, increase visibility and showcase initiatives capable of accelerating sustainable development across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.”

He commended the EU for its intervention at the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research. He described the work there as “vital to advancing oil palm research and productivity.”

The committee remains open to new opportunities. They seek modern farming techniques to address climate change, soil degradation, and food security challenges.
