A frontline aspirant for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has called on Oyo state political stakeholders to shift their attention toward issue-based engagement.
The lawmaker, representing the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency, issued the call following the recent postponement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting for the Oyo South Senatorial District.
The meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed to a later date. This delay triggered widespread speculation and unverified narratives across various social media platforms.
Tackling Speculation in Oyo State Political Discourse
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, the lawmaker cautioned against the proliferation of unsubstantiated claims. He noted that such activities do not contribute to the state’s democratic or developmental goals.
Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, a two-term federal lawmaker, refrained from engaging in direct conflict with any individual or group. Instead, he emphasised the need for maturity and restraint.
He advocated for a transition from personality-driven politics to a dedicated focus on governance, performance, and the future trajectory of the state.
“Experience has shown that periods of political transition often come with heightened speculation and orchestrated narratives. However, as responsible stakeholders, we must rise above distractions and channel our energy towards constructive engagement that benefits our people,” the statement read.
Supporting the Vision of Governor Seyi Makinde
The legislator highlighted that the current conversation should center on continuity and the expansion of achievements recorded under the current administration.
He encouraged party faithful and the general public to support the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde. He stated that the administration has redefined governance through policies in infrastructure, human capital development, and institutional reforms.
2027 Oyo State Governorship Election: Prioritising Developmental Politics for Future Growth
“The task before us is clear, which is to sustain the progress already made. This requires unity, disciplined engagement and a commitment to developmental politics, not a descent into needless distractions,” he stated.
Regarding his own political plans, the lawmaker noted that he remains focused on his legislative duties at the House of Representatives. He stated that he will continue to pursue his governorship aspiration through legitimate and democratic channels.
“I remain fully committed to my mandate at the House of Representatives, while continuing to engage stakeholders across the state within the bounds of law and democratic ethics. Our ambition is anchored on service, not noise,” he added.
Hon. Olajide urged stakeholders to “give development a chance” by promoting policies and programmes that advance the state, rather than amplifying divisive narratives. He maintained that Oyo State is at a critical point, and the quality of political discourse will determine the state’s future.
“As a people, we must decide whether to be consumed by distractions or to stay focused on the bigger picture of maintaining the peace, progress and prosperity of Oyo State. The choice is ours,” the statement concluded.
