The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, has announced the indefinite postponement of his 54th birthday celebration and housewarming ceremony following a security crisis in the region.

Wolekanle Housewarming Dropped in Act of Solidarity

The dual event, originally scheduled for Saturday, 23 May 2026, was cancelled in direct response to the recent Oriire banditry attack. The armed incursion, which targeted local communities within the Oriire Local Government Area, has heightened concerns over Oyo State security after bandits abducted several students and teachers.

Bashorun Akinwole, popularly known as ‘Wolekanle’, stated that the severity of the situation made his scheduled housewarming and birthday celebrations entirely inappropriate. He noted that the unfolding regional crisis instead demands public solidarity and focused emergency measures.

“It could have been anyone. This moment calls for sober reflection and identifying with the victims and their families in this moment of agony. I pray that Almighty God comforts us all and brings the victims back alive,” Bashorun Akinwole said.

Wolekanle’s birthday postponement reflects the growing impact of rural banditry on public and political fixtures across the state. The planned gathering was expected to draw numerous high-profile public servants and regional administrators to the area before the armed raid disrupted local security.

In his official statement, the commission chairman addressed the broader operational challenges facing regional defense lines. While acknowledging the rapid deployment of state resources, he called for immediate tactical adjustments among the various armed divisions involved in the search operations.

While commending the ongoing rescue efforts by Seyi Makinde and security agencies, Akinwole called for stronger inter-agency synergy and effective collaboration to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims and improve Oyo State security across the state.

Joint security forces, including military personnel and local police divisions, have reportedly mobilised tracking units within the forest networks bordering the local government area. Government officials have stated that rescue operations will remain the primary administrative focus until all missing civilians are recovered.
