The people of the Babanloma Community in Kwara State have every reason to celebrate the recent launch of the Albert and Victoria College of Health Sciences and Technology. Established by the late Professor Ogunshola family, this transformative project delivers vital educational opportunities in Kwara while driving long-term community development. It is a visionary investment in local human capital, ensuring young people gain professional skills without leaving home.

A Commendable Drive for Community Development and Education

The Professor Ogunshola family’s decision to establish this institution in Babanloma deserves our collective gratitude. Such an initiative requires vision, resources, and a deep commitment to humanity.

By bringing a specialised health sciences college to our doorstep, the family has created a direct path for youth empowerment. The institution holds enormous potential to become a regional beacon of academic excellence and professional growth.

By establishing a College of Health Sciences and Technology in our community, the family has created an avenue through which young people can acquire relevant education and professional skills without necessarily travelling far from home.

This milestone represents a seed planted today for the benefit of generations yet unborn.

Local Economic Empowerment and Broader Community Benefits

The positive impact of the institution extends well beyond standard classroom boundaries, sparking vital local economic empowerment. A tertiary institution will naturally stimulate commercial activity across Babanloma.

Students, academic staff, visitors, and administrative workers will build steady demand for local services, including:

  • Residential housing and student accommodation
  • Daily transport, food vendors, and retail outlets
  • Commercial printing, document services, and telecommunications
  • Primary healthcare facilities and local retail shops

Local entrepreneurs can expand existing operations or launch new ventures to serve this growing population. Consequently, the establishment of this health sciences college acts as a powerful catalyst for job creation and infrastructural development across Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Philanthropic Action and Educational Opportunities in Kwara

Equally deserving of praise is the rapid response of well-meaning Babanloma natives who have funded admission forms for indigent prospective students. This targeted support ensures qualified candidates access these new educational opportunities in Kwara regardless of financial standing.

“By purchasing admission forms and making them available free of charge to indigent and qualified students, irrespective of their place of origin, these philanthropists are demonstrating a profound understanding of the relationship between education, opportunity and community development.”

Their generosity delivers a clear message: financial constraints must never prevent a capable young person from pursuing higher education.

Uniting to Support Babanloma’s Health Sciences College

While we applaud these early contributions, all stakeholders—including local families, community associations, traditional leaders, and corporate bodies—must join hands with the Ogunshola family.

Support can take many practical forms:

  • Funding student scholarships and learning materials
  • Assisting with regional publicity and community outreach
  • Supporting accommodation and transport infrastructure
  • Every contribution strengthens the long-term sustainability of the institution.

Our Shared Duty to Drive Community Development

The establishment of the college creates a shared responsibility for the entire town. We cannot leave student recruitment solely to the institution’s founders. Traditional rulers, religious bodies, and youth groups must actively encourage families to enroll qualified candidates.

“The success of the College will ultimately bring honour and socio-economic benefits to Babanloma. Therefore, let us collectively create an environment in which the institution can flourish.”

By championing this vision today, Babanloma secures a brighter, self-sustaining future for its youth and the broader region.
